Making friends and sharing history . . .

On Saturday, February 4th, I had a chance to spend the morning with the Sam Houston Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution in League City. Sixty people were in attendance. They handled chapter business. They recognized a high school essay winner. And I presented a short program on The Big Siege of Fort Boonesborough and the Winning of the American West.

I also sold some of my books, AND I found some DAR sisters who had ancestors that were at the fort at the same time as my 6th great-grandfather, David Crews. Two of those ladies were descendants of Daniel Boone himself. And the chapter, for my presentation, gave me a $40 check to the charity of my choice. I chose Wags to Whiskers, a small cat rescue group in northeast Harris County.

As everyone knows - I LOVE this history stuff - and I really enjoyed sharing a little-known tale of fortitude and courage that changed the course of our country and had such lasting impacts at the end of the American Revolution.

I will be at the Lady Washington Chapter of the NSDAR in April speaking about Boonesborough once again, and I will be presenting at my own chapter in Baytown, the Goose Creek Chapter, that same month about the importance of bringing history to life for our children and grandchildren.
